Former Associate Pastor Arrested on Child Sex Charge
John Wayne Diehl held on $50,000 bond

COVINGTON, Ky. -- A former associate pastor at a Kenton County church is in jail on a child sex charge.
John Wayne Diehl was arrested Friday and is being held on $50,000 bond.
Diehl had been on staff at Piner Baptist Church in Morning View since October 2004, most recently as Associate Pastor of Administration.
Apparently, a church member told a youth minister about the alleged sex abuse.
That church leader acted quickly and contacted police, officials said. Two days later, Diehl resigned from the church.
The church leader told News that that he wasn't able to explain what was going on to community until Sunday.
The church is reaching out to the victim and stressing its belief in healing and hope.
News 5's Laura Borchers talked with several members of the church and they said they had no clue the man they knew as "Brother Wayne" was arrested.
The parishioners said Diehl led them for years and seemed to be a caring family man. They also say they do not believe anyone within Piner Baptist was victimized.
Residents said they find it hard to believe an associate pastor is charged with sex crimes against a minor, especially since they say he'd also cared for youth at a children's home.
"Piner Baptist has a great reputation. A lot of people I know go to that church," resident Mike Wilson said.
On a cached copy of the church's Web site, Diehl is described as being married with three children and has made mission trips to Africa in the past.
Diehl has been removed from the current Web site.
No other details about the arrest have been released so far.
