COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - In court Tuesday, bond was denied for a Lexington County teacher accused of sending child porn to a teenage boy over the internet.

Officers arrested the man last week.

Police say the Rev. Timothy Lynn Brumit contacted a Virginia police officer on the internet who was posing as a 13-year-old boy.

The officer, John Chapman, spoke to WIS News 10's Jennifer Wilson last week. "He initiated the conversation. We started talking. I told him I was a 13-year-old boy in Virginia."

"Over the next few days he started distributing child pornography, which mainly was boys ages five to 15 engaging in various sex acts with adults - still pictures and videos."

Chapman works for a computer crimes task force. He says he chatted online 19 times this month with Tim Brumit while posing as a 13-year-old. "We would watch a video together. He would say the boy in the video is you and I'm the man. He was very specific on what he wanted to do with me."

"It got to the point where he wanted to come to Virginia and pick me up without my mom's consent and take me back to South Carolina to live with him. We would destroy my computer and any evidence linking me to him in South Carolina."

"I would just be his 'love child.'"

Federal investigators arrested Brumit Thursday in South Carolina. Brumit lives in Aiken.

Some called his arrest "a relief." A young woman in the neighborhood says Brumit used to help her with her homework. One day when she was 14, she says Brumit told her he wanted to kiss her and run away with her. The girl said she told her parents, and they kept her away from him.

"He's one of the most dangerous people I've dealt with," says Chapman. "Just wanting to kidnap a child and bring him to South Carolina for the purpose of sex - I can't subscribe to that. He's very dangerous."

Brumit taught English at Batesburg-Leesville High School. According to the SC State Department of Education, Brumit taught in Aiken School District in 2000, McCormick School District from 2001 to 2005 and then Allendale School District from 2005 to 2007. He is on administrative leave with pay.

Brumit was a pastor at Sunset Boulevard Baptist Church in Aiken from 1997-1998. He was also a pastor in Jasper County from 1995-1997.

Batesburg-Leesville school officials have said parents or students can call the Lexington School District Three help line at 1-800-418-6423 if they have information that might help the investigation.
