JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will not be speaking at Trinity Baptist Church next weekend, Channel 4 learned Thursday afternoon.

Church officials said earlier this week the Republican would take part in services on Sunday, but the Huckabee campaign said those plans were never confirmed.

A national group called Survivors Network of Those Abused By Priests (SNAP) had threatened to protest Huckabee's visit to the Westside church because the church has been mired in a scandal since its former leader, Robert Gray, was accused of molesting children there years ago.

"It rubs salt into the wounds of people who have already been horribly betrayed," said Christa Brown, of SNAP.

The group wrote a letter to Huckabee asking him to reconsider his speaking engagement and to change the venue.

The Huckabee campaign did not give a reason why the plans with Trinity Baptist were not confirmed.
